Frequently Asked Questions:
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start assessing the student’s English level from our very first meeting. I ask them several questions – how they use English, what they believe are their weak points, how much are they exposed to English, etc.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Native English Speaker. I have had the full 12 years of primary school and high school education in English. I have learnt the English language through all the same methods I will be offering you. Besides having a TESOL certification, I have enjoyed tutoring students who speak Indigenous Australian Languages in remote towns of Australia. I have also taught Piano Music Lessons to beginner students, this area of teaching includes analysis of ability, a structured progressive learning program, and as the teacher, a great deal of enthusiasm to encourage students through challenging skills.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I like the English language and am very friendly and social. My volunteer work with refugees in places of need mean that I can have a career that supports my activity in various communities.
What types of Students have you worked with?
I initially started teaching fellow students during my high school years. These were children who were in lower grade levels who needed one-on-one attention to help them succeed. I spent a year assisting Indigenous children in remote Australia with a tutoring program aimed at improving their reading and comprehension skills.
I have spend many years focusing on youths and adults with the goal to improve their quality of life through a Christian Education program.
I, along with my husband, spent 18 months caring for a foster child, assisting her though an education program and teaching life skills for her long term success.
Why do you need me to be your teacher?
I allow you to speak up to 90% of the time. I will be asking you questions to get you to speak, correcting you and helping you to gain confidence.
